Josef Egger graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) in Switzerland.
Josef Egger worked in the IT department of Swissair for 17 years. From 1986 to 2000 he was the head of the IT department of Swiss Federal Railways. Between 1996 and 2001 he acted as chairman of the Board of Directors of Sunrise, the second-largest telecommunications operator in Switzerland. In 2010, after his activity as a business consultant, Josef Egger graduated from the University of Zurich with a degree in history.
Josef Egger is the author of the book «Ein Wunderwerk der Technik: Frühe Computernutzung in der Schweiz» (1960–1980).
