Helen Keller (born 1964) studied law at and received her doctorate from the University of Zurich. After completing her LL.M. in Bruges and research stays at Harvard Law School, the European University Institute in Florence and the Max Planck Institute for Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, she earned her post-doctoral habilitation at the University of Zurich.
From 2002 to 2004 she was full professor at the University of Lucerne before becoming full professor for Public, European and International Law at the University of Zurich. From 2008 to 2011 she was a member of the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations (monitoring body for the UN Covenant on Political and Civil Rights), and from 2011 until 2020 she served as a judge on the European Court of Human Rights. In 2020 she was elected judge of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2018 by the University of Freiburg i.Ü.
