Andreas Ziegler, born 1967, is a full professor of Public International Law at the University of Lausanne. He was educated at the University of St. Gallen where he received his doctorate in 1995 and earned his post-doctoral habilitation in 2004, having studied extensively at Sciences Po, the University of Oxford, Georgetown University, the University of New South Wales and the MPI in Heidelberg.
Prior to joining the University of Lausanne, Andreas Ziegler worked for the Swiss government, the European Commission, the Secretariat of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and a Zurich law firm active in trade and investment issues. In these roles he negotiated several multilateral and bilateral agreements and was a delegate to the WTO, UNCTAD, OECD, the Energy Charter and other international organizations. Linking practice and theory in the Swiss tradition, Andreas Ziegler published widely in the field of international economic law with a particular interest in investment law. He teaches public international law, international and European economic law and is Co-director of the LL.M programme on International Business Law in Lausanne. He is chair of the Swiss branch of the International Law Association.
